Matteson keeps lead at John Deere

ORION, Mich., July 13 (UPI) -- Troy Matteson maintained his lead and Steve Stricker stayed in the chase Friday after 36 holes of the John Deere Classic.

Matteson finally suffered his first bogey of the tournament at the par-4 15th hole of the TPC-Deere Run course, but he shot a 3-under 68 that put him at 129 for the opening two rounds.

Matteson has played in 20 previous events this year and missed the cut in half of them. The two-time PGA Tour winner has finished no better than a tie for 26th during the 2012 campaign.

Jeff Maggert stormed to a 62 Friday and shared second place with Brian Harmon at 130. J.J. Henry, Gary Christian, Ricky Barnes and Robert Garrigus were all at 131.

Stricker was among those at 132 after shooting a 67. Stricker is trying to become the fifth player in golf history to win the same tournament four years in a row.

Ted Potter, coming off his first career victory at last week's Greenbrier Classic, was in a tie for 11th at 133.

John Daly finished at 2-under 140, but he missed the cut by two shots. Daly had made the cut five times in his six previous appearances on the PGA Tour this year.
