No. 2 seed Vinci upset in Italy

PALERMO, Italy, July 12 (UPI) -- Laura Robson upset second-seeded Roberta Vinci Thursday to move into the quarterfinals of the Italiacom Open.

Robson eliminated Vinci 6-3, 7-5 and will now take on No. 5 Carla Suarez Navarro in Friday's quarterfinals.

Suarez Navarro had a 6-1, 3-2 lead over Anna Tatishvili in their second-round match when Tatishvili retired with an injury.

In the only other second-round match on the schedule Thursday, Barbora Zahlavova Strycova defeated Julia Cohen 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Strycova will meet Julia Goerges in the quarterfinals and the other two matches in the round of eight will send top-seeded Sara Errani against Alexandra Cadantu and Estrella Cabeza Candela against Irina-Camelia Begu.
