MLB: New York Yankees 4, New York Mets 3

NEW YORK, June 23 (UPI) -- Raul Ibanez and Eric Chavez each socked seventh-inning homers Saturday, rallying the New York Yankees to a 4-3 interleague victory over the New York Mets.

With the Yankees trailing 3-0 entering the frame, Mark Teixeira drew a leadoff walk and Nick Swisher followed with a double off Mets starter Chris Young.

Ibanez then came up and blasted a line-drive homer on the first pitch he saw, chasing Young and tying the score.

Jon Rauch (3-7) relieved for the Mets, and after striking out Russell Martin, surrendered a solo shot to Chavez, and the Yankees hung on to even their three-game intracity rivalry series.

Clay Rapada (2-0) was credited with the victory after bailing out starter Ivan Nova in the sixth, retiring Kirk Nieuwenhuis to end a Mets threat, and Rafael Soriano collected his 14th save for the American League East-leading Yanks.

Nieuwenhuis homered for the second-place Mets, who fell 3 1/2 games behind Washington in the NL East.
