DETROIT, June 17 (UPI) -- Max Scherzer struck out 12 Rockies batters over eight shutout innings Sunday, boosting the Detroit Tigers to a 5-0 interleague win over Colorado.

Scherzer (6-4) stifled the Rockies on seven hits and didn't issue a walk in the dominating performance. The right-hander broke a personal two-game winless streak by throwing 89 of his 122 pitches for strikes.

He was backed by Quintin Berry, who went 5-for-5 with a run scored, while Ramon Santiago provided two-run single as the Tigers claimed the rubber match of their three-game interleague series.

Rockies starter Jeremy Guthrie (3-6) was touched for four runs (three earned) on eight hits in a brief, three-inning stint.
