Cornet bests Wickmayer in Austria

BAD GASTEIN, Austria, June 17 (UPI) -- France's Alize Cornet claimed her first title since 2008 Sunday, besting Yanina Wickmayer in the title match of the Gastein Ladies tennis event in Austria.

Cornet, the No. 7 seed, bested the second-seeded Belgian 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) for her first crown since Budapest in 2008 and the second of her career.

The 22-year-old Cornet, playing in her second final of 2012, improved to 2-3 in championship tilts. She lost to Francesca Schiavone in the Strasbourg title match last month.

Wickmayer fell to 3-5 all-time in finals.
