Nova came out to start the ninth in a bid to record the second shutout of his career, but he gave up back-to-back triples to start the inning and was removed in favor of Rafael Soriano.

Soriano retired the only three men he faced to pick up his eighth save.

Mark Teixeira gave New York the lead with a solo homer in the second and Robinson Cano had another one in the fourth. Nick Swisher and Eric Chavez both doubled home a run in the eighth.
