Starlin Castro and Soriano drove in runs in the first inning and DeJesus tripled in another in the fourth, while Joe Mather, hitting for Maholm, hit a home run in the sixth to put the Cubs up 4-1.

All the runs were charged to Los Angeles starter Chad Billingsley (2-2).

The Dodgers, on a Hairston RBI triple, and the Cubs, on a Soriano run-scoring double, both scored in the seventh. Los Angeles pulled within one when Matt Kemp tripled in a run and scored on a sacrifice fly the next inning.
