MLB: Chicago Cubs 3, Cincinnati 1

CINCINNATI, May 2 (UPI) -- Jeff Samardzija limited Cincinnati to a run over 7 2/3 innings while striking out seven Wednesday, carrying the Chicago Cubs to a 3-1 win over the Reds.

Samardzija (3-1) allowed three hits and walked two before giving way to Rafael Dolis with two away and one on in the eighth.

Dolis struck out the only man he faced and Carlos Marmol came on to work a perfect ninth for his second save.

The Cubs got solo homers from Bryan LaHair in the second and Ian Stewart in the fourth, both blasts coming off Bronson Arroyo (1-1). Geovany Soto singled home the final Chicago run in the sixth.

Cincinnati had won its previous two games to climb to the .500 mark.
