MIAMI, March 6 (UPI) -- Gloria Marie James, mother of Miami Heat star LeBron James, has accepted a plea deal to drop a misdemeanor battery charge, prosecutors say.

James was arrested last April after an altercation with valet Rockefeller Sorel at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach Hotel. She was allegedly caught on surveillance tape slapping Sorel.

While Sorel is still pursuing a civil suit against James, James accepted a plea deal Monday to have the criminal charge dropped.

The Miami Herald reported James agreed to serve 20 hours of community service and donate $1,000 to a Haitian earthquake relief fund.
