SAO PAULO, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Argentine Leonardo Mayer scored an upset over former world No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero Wednesday, dispatching him in the first round of the Brazil Open.
Mayer bested the sixth-seeded Ferrero 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 on the clay courts at Sao Paulo, bouncing the 2003 French Open champion from the event.
