NBA: Memphis 85, Minnesota 80

MEMPHIS, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Rudy Gay's 19 points helped Memphis build a comfortable lead Wednesday and the Grizzlies held on to down Minnesota 85-80.

Both sides shot poorly, but Memphis hauled in 21 offensive rebounds and took advantage of the second-chance points to snap a three-game losing streak.

Quincy Pondexter chipped in 17 points for Memphis, a career high, and the Grizzlies got 12 each from Dante Cunningham and Marc Gasol.

Minnesota played the second of the two games it has been without all-star forward Kevin Love, who was suspended for stepping on the head of Houston's Luis Scola last Saturday. Love will return to action against Dallas Friday.

J.J. Barea led the Timberwolves with 17 points. Minnesota had won three in a row.

Memphis owned a 17-point lead in the fourth quarter before the Timberwolves made a belated charge.
