NBA: New York 97, Utah 88

NEW YORK, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Jeremy Lin parlayed his first career start into 28 points and eight assists Monday, sparking the New York Knicks to a 97-88 victory over Utah.

Lin helped fill in the gaps for the Knicks as they played without stars Amare Stoudemire and Camelo Anthony.

Stoudemire was absent following the death of his brother in a Florida car accident, while Anthony left the game with a strained right groin in the first quarter and did not return.

Steve Novak came off the bench to pop in 19 points while Jared Jeffries added 13, Bill Walker contributed 11 and Tyson Chandler provided 10 for New York.

The Jazz were led by Al Jefferson's 22 points.
