LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Darryl Sutter has agreed to become the new coach of the Los Angeles Kings, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.
Sutter has signed a multiyear deal with the Kings to replace the fired Terry Murray and will be introduced Tuesday, the Times said.
The 53-year-old will join the Kings behind the bench Thursday in a home game against the Anaheim Ducks after immigration issues with Canada are worked out, taking over from interim coach John Stevens, ESPN reported.
Sutter has 11 years of NHL head coaching experience leading with Chicago, San Jose and Calgary. He took the 2004 Flames to the Stanley Cup Finals, where they lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
He served as the Flames' general manager until last December, when he resigned.
The Kings have struggled with a poor offense en route to a 14-13-4 record.
