Kyle Busch banned from weekend's racing

FORT WORTH, Texas, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Kyle Busch will not take part in the weekend's racing in Texas due to his allegedly intentional Friday night crash into Ron Hornaday, NASCAR announced Saturday.

The ruling means Busch will sit out this weekend's Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series races at the Texas Motor Speedway.

"The responsibility that we have given to the drivers over the past two or three seasons came with a very clear understanding that there could be a line that got crossed," NASCAR President Mike Helton told reporters after meeting with Busch Saturday.

Joe Gibbs Racing said it would put Michael McDowell behind the wheel of Busch's No. 18 car in Saturday's Sprint Cup race and have Denny Hamlin drive in Sunday's Nationwide race.

Busch was called on the carpet after a bizarre incident in Friday's Camping World Truck Series race at the Speedway. Busch allegedly went after Ron Hornaday while the race was under caution, causing Hornaday to crash and ending his quest for a fifth series title.

Hornaday and Busch had tangled a lap earlier with both winding up kissing the wall.

Busch is one of the 12 drivers in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship field. He is currently seventh in the Chase standings, 57 points behind leader Carl Edwards.
