ST. LOUIS, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- The St. Louis Cardinals celebrated their World Series victory Sunday with a parade through the city's downtown where thousands cheered them on.
Cardinals Manager Tony La Russa and such stars as Albert Pujols, Chris Carpenter, Lance Berkman and David Freese were perched atop a wagon pulled by a team of Clydesdale horses, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
The parade started at Union Station, headed down Market Street and ended with a rally at Busch Stadium, where Mayor Francis Slay awarded Freese with the key to the city.
The third baseman was named World Series MVP after hitting .348 with three doubles, a triple and a home run -- an extra-inning, walk-off shot that gave the Cards a dramatic comeback win in Game 6.
City officials were expecting several hundred thousand people to turn out for the parade, although an official count wasn't immediately available, the newspaper said.
