Haas, Petzschner win at Stockholm Open

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Tommy Haas and Philipp Petzschner claimed early wins Monday at the Stockholm Open tennis tournament in Sweden.

Hass defeated Somdev Devvarman 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 with a solid serving game. Haas lost only 15 points in 11 service games and saved three of the four break points he faced.

Petzschner didn't lose his serve at all in a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Lukasz Kubot. Petzschner cashed in his only break chance of the second set in sealing the win.

Hass and Petzschner join the tournament's top four seeds in the second round. Top-seeded Gael Monfils, No. 2 Juan Martin del Potro, third-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka and fourth-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela all have first-round byes.

The Stockholm Open champion, to be determined Sunday, will earn more than $137,000. Roger Federer won the event in 2010 but isn't in the draw this year.
