MLB: Philadelphia 7, Atlanta 1

ATLANTA, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Roy Oswalt hurled six scoreless innings Tuesday and the Philadelphia Phillies spanked Atlanta 7-1, dropping the Braves into a tie for the NL wild-card lead.

Oswalt (9-10) limited the Braves to three hits, allowing one walk and striking out four as the NL East champion Phillies matched a franchise record set in 1976 with their 101st victory.

Hunter Pence smashed a two-run homer while Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley added solo shots for the victors.

The struggling Braves came into the contest clinging to a one-game lead over St. Louis in the NL wild-card chase. The Cardinals, however, routed Houston 13-6 Monday to forge a tie with Atlanta with one game remaining.

Derek Lowe (9-17) absorbed the loss for Atlanta, lasting only four innings while yielding five runs on six hits.

Martin Prado socked a solo homer for the Braves, who fell to 8-17 in September and will seek to edge out the Cardinals in Wednesday's final game of the regular season.

Should the two teams remain knotted after Wednesday, a tie-breaker would be played Thursday night in St. Louis.
