MLB: San Diego 2, Colorado 1

DENVER, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Mat Latos scattered six hits and struck out nine Tuesday to lead the San Diego Padres past Colorado 2-1.

Latos (8-14) nearly recorded his second career shutout but Jordan Pacheco knocked a base hit into center field with two outs in the bottom of the ninth that brought Dexter Fowler home with Colorado's lone run.

Heath Bell was summoned from the bullpen to record the final out, securing the victory for Latos and earning his 40th save of the season.

Orlando Hudson and Jeremy Hermida drove in the two San Diego runs. The Padres have won four of their last five.

Jhoulys Chacin (11-13) took the loss for the Rockies, whose losing streak was extended to six games. Chacin gave up two runs -- one earned -- on six hits in six innings.
