MLB: Pittsburgh 5, Houston 4

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Andrew McCutchen hit two homers and Jason Jaramillo singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth Wednesday, lifting Pittsburgh to a 5-4 win over Houston.

The Pirates overcame an early three-run deficit to avoid official elimination in the National League Central race. It was the 600th win in the managerial career of Pittsburgh's Clint Hurdle.

Houston, five losses away from reaching 100 for the season, got a two-run homer from Carlos Lee and a solo shot from Matt Downs in the opening inning.

McCutchen had a solo blast in the first, Clint Barmes homered for the Astros to make it 4-1 in the fourth and McCutchen then produced a three-run blow in the fifth to tie it.

Jaramillo came on as a pinch-hitter in the eighth with runners on first and second and his single delivered Chase D'Arnaud with the winning run.

Reliever Tony Watson (2-2) got the victory by recording the final out in the eighth.

Wilton Lopez (2-6) allowed the go-ahead score in the eighth to take the loss.
