MLB: San Francisco 5, Florida 2

MIAMI, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Brandon Belt bashed a pair of solo homers and Ryan Vogelsong turned in a strong start Sunday in the San Francisco Giants' 5-2 win over Florida.

The Giants also benefited from a two-run blast by Cody Ross, which ended their major league record of 21 consecutive bases-empty homers, and Nate Schierholtz added another solo shot for San Francisco.

Vogelsong (10-2) nailed down the victory, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out eight over 7 2/3 innings as the Giants, who entered the contest two games behind National League West-leading Arizona.

Ramon Ramirez earned his second save of the season in the ninth for San Francisco, which took the rubber match of a three-game series.

Florida's Chris Volstad (5-9) took the loss after getting tagged for four runs on seven hits over six frames.

Mike Stanton hit a solo home run for the Marlins.
