MLB: Kansas City 5, Chicago White Sox 1

CHICAGO, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Bruce Chen worked six outstanding innings Friday and Melky Cabrera hit a three-run homer in sending Kansas City to a 5-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.

Chen (7-5) gave up only one hit and struck out four. He has won back-to-back starts for the first time since he captured his first three appearances of the season.

Billy Butler had an RBI single in the first and hit a homer in the sixth but the Royals held only a 2-0 lead heading into the ninth. Cabrera then broke things open with his 15th homer of the season.

Kansas City halted a four-game losing streak.

Chicago's only run came in the bottom of the ninth against Greg Holland.

Zach Stewart (1-2) gave up two runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings to absorb the loss.
