NEW YORK, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Curtis Granderson hit a two-run home run and Robinson Cano added grand slam Thursday, power the New York Yankees to a 6-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels.
Granderson's 32nd home run of the season came in the sixth inning and tied the score 2-2. Cano broke the tie with his 20th homer of the season, knocking the ball off the facing of the second deck in right field.
New York starter Bartolo Colon allowed a two-run home run to Alberto Callaspo -- his fourth of the season -- in the fifth and was lifted after that inning. Rafael Soriano (2-1) pitched the sixth and benefited from the Cano home run in getting the win.
The Angels made it interesting in the ninth before Mariano Rivera, who allowed a three-run home run by Russell Branyan, got two outs to finish off his 30th save.
Granderson dropped his home run about 10-15 rows deep into the right-field stands after Derek Jeter had singled to open the sixth.
Francisco Cervelli and Jeter walked, with a sacrifice between them, in the seventh and Los Angeles pitcher Scott Downs came in for Fernando Rodney. After a strikeout, Mark Teixeira reached on a fielded error and, two pitches later, Cano blasted his grand slam to saddle Rodney (2-4) with the loss.
