MLB: St. Louis 8, Milwaukee 7 (11 innings)

MILWAUKEE, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Lance Berkman singled with two outs in the 11th inning Tuesday to bring in the winning run in the St. Louis Cardinals' 8-7 win over Milwaukee.

The win pulled the Cardinals to within 2 1.2 games behind the first-place Brewers in the National League Central.

Berkman got his bat on an outside pitch with a full count and looped a base hit into left field, which brought in Matt Holliday with the go-ahead run. Holliday had reached on an infield single and then stole second and third.

The Cardinals scored five runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-3 lead, but Milwaukee roared back with four in the fifth to take a 7-6 lead. St. Louis tied the game in the seventh when a run scored on a double-play grounder by Holliday.

Cardinals starter Jamie Garcia was roughed up for 10 hits and seven runs -- three earned -- over five innings. Kyle McClellan (8-6) picked up the win in relief and Octavio Dotel pitched the final 2/3 innings for his second save.

Marco Estrada (2-7) took the loss after surrendering the winning run.
