NEW YORK, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Mike Stanton blasted a grand slam in the 10th inning Monday, powering the Florida Marlins to a 7-3 victory over the New York Mets.
The Mets had forced an extra frame in the bottom of the ninth when, down to their last strike, Lucas Dada unloaded a score-tying, two-run homer off Marlins closer Leo Nunez (1-2).
But Florida came right back in the next half-inning when Gaby Sanchez, Hanley Ramirez and Dewayne Wise hit consecutive one-out singles off Jason Isringhausen (2-1), and Stanton followed by launching a 3-2 pitch into the left-field stands for a grand slam.
Sanchez went 2-for-3 with two RBI and starter Javier Vazquez threw seven innings of one-run ball as Florida took the opener of a three-game set at Citi Field.
Jason Bay smacked a solo shot for the Mets.
