MLB: Cincinnati 3, Pittsburgh 1

PITTSBURGH, July 20 (UPI) -- Johnny Cueto and four Cincinnati relievers combined on a five-hitter Wednesday and the Reds defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-1.

Cincinnati scored a run in the first inning without getting a hit, added another in the second on a walk, a single and a sacrifice fly and got its third due to an error in beating Pirates starter Jeff Karstens (8-5).

Cueto (6-3) allowed four hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out four. Bill Bray gave up the other hit but Logan Ondrusek, Aroldis Chapman and Francisco Cordero combined for 2-2/3 innings of no-hit relief. Cordero picked up his 19th save.

Chris Heisey led off the game by reaching second on an error, took third on a sacrifice and scored on a Joey Votto sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead. The next inning Jay Bruce led off with a walk, took third on a Jonny Gomes single and scored on Miguel Cairo's sacrifice fly.

Cueto reached on an error with two outs in the fifth and came around on singles by Heisey and Edgar Renteria.

Pittsburgh's run came in the fourth when Cueto hit Neil Walker with a pitch and Andrew McCutchen followed with an RBI double.
