Dodgers' creditors want MLB finance plan

LOS ANGELES, July 18 (UPI) -- Creditors for the bankrupt Los Angeles Dodgers say they want owner Frank McCourt to accept Major League Baseball's financing plan rather than use his own.

An attorney for the creditors committee wrote in a document filed Monday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court that McCourt's own financing plan carries a high interest rate while one offered by baseball Commissioner Bud Selig is interest-free, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"There can be no question the [proposed MLB financing] is economically superior," the filing said. "Yet the committee understands the [Dodgers'] concerns with the proposed [MLB financing] given the tense relationship between the parties."

McCourt is facing a hearing Wednesday when a judge will decide which plan will be used.

"The fees and interest associated with [McCourt's proposed loan] are excessive, particularly ... where [the lender] has almost no risk that it will not be repaid in full," the filing said.

McCourt's attorneys argue he shouldn't be made to accept the MLB offer because of its "hostile" relationship toward the club, the Times reported.
