Blackhawks' Kane confident on wrist surgery

CHICAGO, July 16 (UPI) -- Chicago Blackhawks wing Patrick Kane says he expects to be ready for training camp after he recovers from surgery on an elusive wrist fracture.

Initial tests did not reveal the fracture in Kane's left wrist, which bothered him in the playoffs and failed to heal after the season ended.

"I thought it was getting better, but it's in an area where no blood can get to the fracture and something I'm going to have fixed for later down the road," Kane told the Chicago Sun-Times. "It's one of those things, I fix it out now (and) it's not going to affect me when the season comes.

"I'm happy we're doing it now rather than when I come to training camp and I'm out two months after that," Kane added.

Kane's wrist was in a brace at this week's annual Blackhawks convention in Chicago. The injury added some somber spice to the Friday gathering, which included appearances by newcomer defenseman Sami Lepisto and Michael Frolick, who signed a new three-year contract with the Hawks.
