CHICAGO, July 2 (UPI) -- Phillip Humber hurled seven shutout innings Saturday and the Chicago White Sox edged the Chicago Cubs 1-0 in an interleague rivalry game.

Matt Thornton earned his third save of the year with two scoreless innings of relief as the White Sox reached the .500 mark for the first time since mid-April (42-42) and clinched a series win for the 19th time in 20 interleague match-ups.

Juan Pierre drove in the game's only run with a sixth-inning single.

Matt Garza (4-7) was the hard-luck loser, pitching well in a complete-game loss. The Cubs' right-hander yielded only the one run on four hits and two walks, striking out seven.

The Cubs had runners at first and second with none out on three separate occasions but failed to score.
