MLB: Florida 3, Oakland 0

OAKLAND, Calif., June 30 (UPI) -- Ricky Nolasco threw the second shutout of his career Wednesday, turning in an unlikely five-hitter that gave the Florida Marlins a 3-0 victory over Oakland.

The Marlins, who began the month nine games above .500, won for only the fourth time in June.

Nolasco (5-4) got off to a 4-0 start this season, but had four losses and two no-decisions in his previous six outings. In those six games he allowed 27 runs over 33 1/3 innings.

Against the Athletics, however, he threw 112 pitches and gave up two walks to go with three strikeouts. He went the distance for the fifth time in his six years in the majors.

Oakland starter Guillermo Moscoso (2-4) gave up only four hits and struck out eight in six innings. Two of the three runs he allowed were unearned.

Oakland shortstop Cliff Pennington committed a fielding error that allowed leadoff batter Emilio Bonifacio to reach base in the first inning and two outs later Hanley Ramirez hit a two-run homer.

The other Florida run came on Logan Morrison's homer in the fourth.

With one game left to play in the month, Florida's June record stands at 4-23.
