OAKLAND, Calif., June 29 (UPI) -- Gio Gonzalez gave up one hit over eight innings Tuesday to lead the Oakland A's to a 1-0 win over Florida.

Gonzalez (7-5) struck out nine and walked three before turning the game over to Andrew Bailey, who allowed one base runner but then struck out the side in the ninth to preserve the one-hitter and collect his sixth save.

Oakland scored its only run in the second when Hideki Matsui led off with a double, went to third on a groundout, and then came home on Kurt Suzuki's sacrifice fly. Coco Crisp had two of the Athletics' four hits.

Emilio Bonifacio had Florida's only hit.

Javier Vasquez (4-7) turned in a solid start for the Marlins, giving up one run on three hits and striking out five in seven innings.

Bonifacio opened the ninth by reaching second base on a throwing error by third baseman Scott Sizemore. But Bailey struck out the next three batters to end the game.

The start of the game was delayed by rain for more than an hour.
