MLB: Pittsburgh 5, Houston 4

HOUSTON, June 16 (UPI) -- Garrett Jones hit a 3-run home run and started a play that led to a tiebreaking run Thursday in a 5-4 Pittsburgh Pirates victory over the Houston Astros.

Andrew McCutchen and Neil Walker had two-out singles for the Pirates in the sixth inning before Jones reached on a fielding error by Michael Bourn that got McCutchen home.

Josh Harrison followed with a double that scored Walker but Jones was thrown out at home, leaving Pittsburgh ahead 5-3.

Reliever Jose Veras gave up two hits, including an RBI-single to Jeff Keppinger, in the ninth but still was given his first save.

James McDonald (5-4) got the win despite giving up three runs on seven hits and four walks over 5 2/3 innings. He also struck out four.

Jordan Lyles (0-2) allowed five runs -- three earned -- in 5 2/3 innings. He allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out eight.

Jones broke a six-week home run drought with a first-inning home run. It was his seventh homer of the season.

Brett Wallace scored on a grounder and Carlos Corporan had a sacrifice fly for Houston in the fourth. The Astros tied the score 3-3 in the fifth on Hunter Pence's RBI double.
