MLB: Oakland 8, Kansas City 4

OAKLAND, Calif., June 16 (UPI) -- Jemile Weeks knocked in three runs and Scott Sizemore scored three runs Thursday in helping the Oakland Athletics to an 8-4 win over the Kansas City Royals.

Each of the A's starters except Daric Barton had at least one hit, and Barton contributed two RBI and a run scored.

Oakland got to Kansas City starter Jeff Francis (3-7) for six runs and nine hits in just 3 1/2 innings.

Gio Gonzalez (6-5) picked up the win with a 6-inning outing in which he gave up five hits and two runs. He also struck out 10.

Oakland spotted Gonzalez a 4-0 lead in the second when, after the first run scored on a Barton grounder, Weeks doubled in two runs, including Sizemore, and Coco Crisp singled in Weeks.

The A's added two runs in the third on Hideki Matsui's sixth home run of the year and a score on another Barton grounder.

Melky Cabrera and Jeff Francoeur knocked in runs for Kansas City in the fifth, but Weeks had a single in the bottom of the inning that again scored Sizemore for a 7-2 lead.

Sizemore scored in the seventh on a Kurt Suzuki double.

The Royals made it 8-4 with run-scoring doubles from Wilson Betemit and Brayan Pena in the eighth.
