KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 9 (UPI) -- Adam Lind's grand slam homer highlighted a game of big blasts Wednesday and helped power the Toronto Blue Jays to a 9-8 win over Kansas City.
Jason Nix had a three-run home run for the Blue Jays while both Melky Cabrera and Billy Butler had three-run shots for the Royals.
Toronto won for the third time in four games, rallying from a 4-2 deficit on Nix's homer in the fourth and then expanding its lead to 9-4 on Lind's second career slam in the sixth.
Kansas City got within two runs on Butler's homer in the eighth and Alex Gordon doubled home a run with two away in the ninth. With the tying run on second, Casey Janssen got Cabrera on a game-ending liner to short.
It was Janssen's first save of the season and the eighth of his five-year career.
The win went to Carlos Villanueva (4-0), who gave up four runs on six hits with five strikeouts in seven innings. He has an eight-game winning streak dating to last season.
Danny Duffy (0-2) surrendered five runs on eight hits in four innings to take the loss.
