Ivanovic posts lopsided win in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, England, June 8 (UPI) -- Ana Ivanovic lost only one game Wednesday in sailing through a second-round match at the Aegon Classic tennis tournament in England.

Ivanovic, seeded second, easily handled Anna Tatishvili 6-1, 6-0 in 44 minutes. Ivanovic allowed Tatishvili just seven points on serve. The only game Tatishvili won was a service break.

Ivanovic took 68 percent of the points in the match, including 79 percent when receiving serve.

As easy as Ivanovic had it, No. 3-seeded Peng Shuai had a battle. She had to win a third-set tiebreaker to get past world No. 231 Naomi Broady 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-2). Broady pounded out 17 aces but was able to break Peng's serve just once in 16 service games.

Other seeded second-round winners Wednesday included No. 4 Daniela Hantuchova, who dumped Sorana Cirstea 6-0, 6-3; seventh-seeded Sara Errani, who got past Christina McHale 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-2; No. 13 Rebecca Marino, who defeated Rika Fujiwara 6-1, 6-2; and 16th-seeded Alla Kudryavtseva, who was a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 winner over Casey Dellacqua.

However, Tamira Paszek knocked out sixth-seeded Ekaterina Makarova 6-4, 3-6, 6-4; Andrea Hlavackova beat No. 9-seeded Ayumi Morita 7-6 (7-2); and Marina Erakovic ousted 11th-seeded Yaroslava Shvedova 7-6 (9-7), 7-5.

Wednesday's other winners were Sabine Lisicki, Heather Watson and Alison Riske.
