Shin out front on LPGA Tour

GALLOWAY, N.J., June 3 (UPI) -- Jiyai Shin shot a 5-under 66 on a difficult course Friday to take a one-shot lead after one round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic.

Shin, who has been in and out of the No. 1 world ranking during the past year, was one of just 13 players who broke par at the Dolce Seaview Resort & Spa.

Sandra Gal, who played in the same threesome with Shin, was alone in second at 67 while Catriona Matthew shot a 68 to finish third.

"I came here a little up and down," said Shin, ranked third in the world. "My shot was great, but my putter didn't work through two tournaments. I've practiced a lot with the putter."

Shin missed this tournament last year while recovering from an appendectomy.

Cristie Kerr, Lindsey Wright, Vicky Hurst, I.K. Kim, Karen Stupples and Anna Grzebien were tied for fourth at 2-under 69. Defending champion Ai Miyazato had a 73.
