The Phillies rallied again in the seventh while trailing 4-3. Placido Polanco chased Nationals starter Livan Hernandez with a one-out single. Sean Burnett (0-2) came in and issued a walk to Chase Utley, followed by a score-tying single from Howard.

Ibanez then lofted a fly to right, plating Utley for what turned out to be the winning run for the Phillies, who posted their seventh straight win over Washington in the first of a three-game series.

Roy Halladay (7-3) collected his 12th consecutive victory over the Nationals franchise, yielding four runs on 10 hits in seven innings while walking none and striking out five.

Ryan Madson picked up his 12th save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Danny Espinoza, Laynce Nix and Michael Morse each socked solo homers off Halladay for Washington.
