MINNEAPOLIS, May 29 (UPI) -- Mark Trumbo blasted a ninth-inning homer that proved to be decisive Sunday in the Los Angeles Angels' 6-5 victory over Minnesota.

Trumbo belted a pitch from Twins reliever Jim Hoey into the second deck in left field leading off the ninth, handing the Angels a 6-3 lead that they would need to hold on for a win in the rubber match of a three-game set.

Trumbo finished with a pair of hits and Erick Aybar went 3-for-5, driving in three runs with a two-run triple and an RBI single in the Los Angeles victory.

Starter Dan Haren (5-3) broke a personal seven-game winless streak after holding Minnesota to three runs on 10 hits over six innings, walking one while striking out a pair.

Angels closer Jordan Walden picked up his 12th save despite allowing a pair of runs in the ninth on run-scoring singles from Denard Span and Justin Morneau.

Carl Pavano (2-5) turned in his sixth start without a victory for the Twins, who have won only one series at home while struggling to a major-league worst 17-34 record.

Pavano yielded five runs (four earned) on 10 hits in an eight-inning effort.
