MLS: San Jose 2, New England 1

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 22 (UPI) -- Bobby Convey's goal in the 83rd minute proved to be the game-winner Saturday in the San Jose Earthquakes' 2-1 victory over New England.

Convey's first goal of the season came when he curled a perfect free kick from 25 yards out into the upper-left corner of the net, which gave the Quakes (3-4-3) a 2-0 advantage.

It turned out San Jose needed the tally when Chris Tierney made it 2-1 only 3 minutes later, answering by beating San Jose goalie Jon Busch to the bottom-left corner off a free kick.

New England (3-4-4), however, couldn't get any closer.

Ellis McLoughlin had scored his first career MLS goal to put the Earthquakes up 1-0 in the 71st minute.
