NHL: Vancouver 2, Nashville 1

NASHVILLE, May 9 (UPI) -- Roberto Luongo stopped 23-of-24 shots Monday and the Vancouver Canucks won their Western Conference semifinal series against Nashville with a 2-1 victory.

Vancouver clamped down on defense in the final two periods and Luongo only had to face seven shots in the second and six in the third, as the Canucks posted a 4-2 Western Conference semifinal series win over the Predators.

Mason Raymond and Daniel Sedin each logged first-period goals and Ryan Kesler assisted on both as the top-seeded Canucks reached the West finals, where they will face the winner of the San Jose-Detroit conference semifinal series.

The Sharks lead that series 3-2.

David Legwand scored in the second period to bring Nashville to within a goal but the fifth-seeded Predators could get no closer.

Nashville's Pekka Rinne turned aside 17-of-19 shots in the season-ending loss.
