MLB: Los Angeles Angels 11, Boston 0

BOSTON, May 5 (UPI) -- Lead-off hitter Erick Aybar had four hits, igniting an 18-hit Los Angeles attack that led the Angels to an 11-0 rout of the Boston Red Sox.

Aybar scored a pair of runs and Howard Kendrick had three hits and two runs batted in while Bobby Abreu knock in three runs. The top third of the Los Angeles order combined for nine hits, three runs and six RBI.

Los Angeles scored three times in each the third, fourth and fifth innings and reached double figures with a two-run seventh. Eight of the runs and 10 of the hits were charged to Boston starter John Lackey (2-4)

Angels starter Joel Pineiro (1-0) allowed three hits and four walks over 5 2/3 innings for the win.

Alberto Callaspo doubled in a pair of runs to cap the three-run Los Angeles third. Kendrick, Abreu and Torii Hunter had consecutive run-scoring singles in the fourth. Mark Trumbo hit a two-run home run and Aybar singled in the third run in the fifth.

Abreu finished the scoring with a two-run double in the seventh.
