NEW YORK, May 5 (UPI) -- Mike Pelfrey limited San Francisco to four hits over 7 2/3 innings Thursday in pacing the New York Mets to a 5-2 win over the Giants.
Pelfrey (2-3) gave up three singles and a solo home run to Mike Fontenot in the fourth inning. Pitcher Jonathan Sanchez singled in the other San Francisco run an inning later. Francisco Rodriguez pitched the final 1 1/3 inning and collected his seventh save.
The Mets had gotten to Sanchez (2-2), the San Francisco starter, for three runs in the second inning, a rally highlighted by Jose Reyes' two-run triple.
Still the Mets totaled just five hits -- all off Sanchez, who also helped New York with six walks against his six strike outs.
After the Giants had pulled within 3-2, New York's Carlos Beltran connected for a two-run home run -- his fifth homer of the season -- in the fifth.
