WASHINGTON, May 1 (UPI) -- Vincent Lecavalier's second goal came in overtime Sunday and lifted Tampa Bay to a 3-2 win over Washington for a 2-0 conference semifinal series lead.
Randy Jones banked a long pass from the Lightning's zone off the boards to Teddy Purcell, who gathered it in and avoided a defenseman as he skated into the left circle.
He shoveled a backhand pass across the crease to an unguarded Lecavalier, who stopped the puck, switched to his forehand and put it past Michal Neuvirth for the game-winner 6:19 into the extra frame.
Tampa Bay's captain also scored on a first-period power play and Martin St. Louis added a tally early in the third for the Lightning, who will take a 2-0 advantage back to Tampa for Tuesday's Game 3 in their Eastern Conference semifinal series.
Dwayne Roloson stopped 35-of-37 shots, including five in overtime, for the Bolts.
Alex Ovechkin scored with 1:07 remaining in regulation after the Capitals had pulled their goalie to force the extra frame.
Brooks Laich also found the net and Neuvirth finished with 20 saves for Washington.
