NHL: Los Angeles 3, San Jose 1

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 24 (UPI) -- Jonathan Quick made 51 saves Saturday, helping the Los Angeles Kings stave off elimination in their first-round playoff series with a 3-1 win over San Jose.

Quick's performance set a Kings franchise record for the most stops in a regulation-time game and kept Los Angeles in the Stanley Cup hunt by forcing a Game 6 in its Western Conference quarterfinal series against the Sharks.

Kyle Clifford and Wayne Simmonds each logged a goal and an assist and Dustin Penner added a marker for Los Angeles, which trails San Jose 3-2 in the series.

Patrick Marleau got the only goal for the Sharks, who will again attempt to close out the series Monday at Los Angeles.

Antti Niemi started in net and was pulled just 9 minutes into the game after he allowed three goals on the Kings' first four shots. Antero Niittymaki replaced him and made 18 saves the rest of the way.
