MLB: Minnesota 5, Baltimore 3

BALTIMORE, April 18 (UPI) -- Drew Butera stroked a two-run double en route to three RBI Monday and the Minnesota Twins handed Baltimore its eighth straight loss, 5-3.

Butera's second-inning hit gave the Twins a 2-0 lead and he added a run-scoring single in the ninth for a 4-2 advantage as Minnesota took the opener of a four-game series at Camden Yards.

Danny Valencia went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for Minnesota.

Francisco Liriano (1-3) earned his first win of the year after three rough starts, yielding two runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings. He overcame five walks while fanning two.

Matt Capps earned his second save despite allowing a ninth-inning solo homer to Luke Scott.

Chris Tillman surrendered three runs on six hits in a 6 2/3-inning start for the Orioles, who haven't won since April 9.

Adam Jones and Matt Wieters added bases-empty homers for Baltimore.
