MLB: N.Y. Yankees 6, Texas 5

NEW YORK, April 17 (UPI) -- Eric Chavez hit an RBI single in the eighth inning Sunday, lifting the New York Yankees to a 6-5 win over Texas.

Mark Teixeira drew a one-out walk from Arthur Rhodes (0-1) in the bottom of the eighth and reached third one out later on Nick Swisher's single. He came home to break a 5-5 tie when Chavez followed by lining a pitch up the middle.

Mariano Rivera recorded his seventh save with a 1-2-3 ninth, preserving the victory for Rafael Soriano (1-0), who had tossed a scoreless eighth.

Curtis Granderson and Russell Martin smacked two-run homers and Robinson Cano added a solo shot for the Yankees, who took the rubber match of a three-game series against the Rangers.

Adrian Beltre went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, knocking in four runs, and Michael Young contributed three hits and an RBI for Texas.
