MLB: Kansas City 6, Seattle 5

KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 15 (UPI) -- Luke Hochevar tossed seven innings of one-hit ball Friday but the Kansas City Royals had to hang on down the stretch to complete a 6-5 victory over Seattle.

Hochevar (2-1) surrendered one run, walking two and fanning four to notch the victory.

Jeff Francoeur finished with three RBI, singling home Chris Getz in the first inning to tie the contest at 1-1 and smacking a two-run home run in the third.

Matt Treanor contributed a bases-empty blast while Mike Aviles and Billy Butler each chipped in an RBI en route to a 6-1 advantage, but Kansas City had to weather a late rally, with Seattle scoring four times over the final two innings.

Joakim Soria allowed a run-scoring single to Mike Saunders and issued a bases-load walk to Justin Smoak in the ninth inning before finally getting Chone Figgins to line out to end the game, earning his fourth save as the Royals improved to 9-4.

Erik Bedard (0-3) was saddled with the loss, yielding five runs (four earned) on seven hits in a 4 2/3-inning start for Seattle.
