MLB: Detroit 3, Texas 2

DETROIT, April 13 (UPI) -- Brandon Inge socked a game-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday, lifting the Detroit Tigers to a 3-2 decision over Texas.

Inge pulled a one-out breaking pitch from Darren Oliver (1-1) over the bullpen and into the left field seats, handing the Tigers a win in the rubber match of a three-game series at Comerica Park.

Inge also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to cap a game-tying, two-run Tigers rally in the sixth.

The blast made a winner of Jose Valverde (2-0), who worked a scoreless top of the ninth. Tigers starter Max Scherzer allowed two runs on six hits over six innings.

Reliever Dave Bush made his first start for the Rangers, tossing three shutout innings to begin the game.

Nelson Cruz and David Murphy drove in runs for Texas.
