MLB: Cleveland 12, Seattle 3

SEATTLE, April 9 (UPI) -- Travis Hafner's three-run homer finished off the biggest inning of the young major league season Friday and sent the Cleveland Indians racing by Seattle 12-3.

The Indians scored 10 times in the fourth inning on 10 hits while sending 14 men to the plate. Hafner drove in four runs and scored twice in the inning. Cleveland produced 17 hits, winning its fifth straight after losing its opening two games of the campaign.

The first five Cleveland batters reached in the fourth inning before Matt LaPorta ended that streak with a sacrifice fly. Hafner had an RBI single in his first trip to the plate in the fourth and then scored on a double by Austin Kearns.

When he came up again in the inning, Hafner unloaded a homer to right that brought home Shin-Soo Choo and Carlos Santana.

Carlos Carrasco (1-1) picked up the easy win, going six innings while allowing a lone run on four hits. He struck out six.

Jason Vargas (0-1) retired only one man in the fourth and gave up seven runs on nine hits in 3 1/3.

Asdrubal Cabrera hit his second homer of the year for Cleveland in the first, a solo shot. Two of the Seattle runs came in the ninth.
