NHL: Los Angeles 3, Phoenix 2 (SO)

LOS ANGELES, April 7 (UPI) -- Jarret Stoll's goal in the second round of the shootout Wednesday helped the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-2 win over Phoenix and a spot in the playoffs.

After Stoll put a wrist shot off the right corner post to give the Kings a two-goal lead in the shootout, Radim Vrbata kept the Coyotes in it and Dustin Brown scored against the Kings. Jonathan Quick then denied Lauri Korpikoski and Los Angeles clinched its second straight post-season appearance.

Kyle Clifford and Stoll each scored a goal for Los Angeles, which holds the fourth spot in the West with 98 points, one point up on Nashville and Phoenix.

Quick finished with 33 saves and improved his record in shootouts this season to 10-0.

Lee Stempniak and Taylor Pyatt had a goal and an assist apiece and Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 31 shots for the Coyotes, who lost for the third time in four games.
