MLB: Philadelphia 10, New York Mets 7

PHILADELPHIA, April 6 (UPI) -- Ryan Howard had four hits Wednesday and combined with Placido Polanco to drive in five runs, giving the Philadelphia Phillies a 10-7 win over the New York Mets.

New York rallied from a seven-run deficit to tie it in the fifth but both Polanco and Howard had RBI singles in the bottom half of the inning to put the Phillies back in front for good.

Polanco also had an RBI ground out in the first and singled in a run in the third. Howard hit a solo homer in the third.

New York tied it with a five-run fifth that featured a two-run double by Ike Davis.

After Philadelphia starter Joe Blanton was driven from the mound, Antonio Bastardo (1-0) got the win with 1 2/3 scoreless innings. The Phillies scored their 10 runs on 16 hits.

Mike Pelfrey gave up six runs in a two-inning start, but the loss went to Blaine Boyer (0-1), who allowed the two Philadelphia runs in the fifth after two were out.

Jose Contreras threw 21 pitches while walking one batter in the ninth, but still picked up his first save.
